$12.6 Million for Painting

While this just exceeded the low estimate of $12 million, it set a new record for the most expensive piece sold in Hong Kong this season.

Basquiat has been a boon for the auction house in recent months, with his painting "Untitled (ELMAR)" selling for $46.5 million at a Phillips New York sale in May. This piece was the highest selling work in that auction. Additionally, another Basquiat work, "Untitled (Portrait of a Famous Ballplayer)" from 1981, fetched $7.8 million in the same event. These sales have reinforced Basquiat’s status as a highly sought-after blue-chip artist in the art market.
